Housecall Pro alternative

The bill went up
because you hired somebody.

That is the whole reason most people end up on this page. Nothing broke — the business grew, and the software noticed. ServiceBuilt charges one price per company, not per person, so the fourth truck and the new office manager cost nothing.

No contracts. Ever. Month to month, cancel yourself in the app. No card to start, no demo call, no salesperson.

The maths

Where the line actually falls.

Per-seat pricing is not a scam, it is a different shape. It is cheaper when you are small and it gets expensive in exactly the year you are growing fastest.

Housecall Pro rates read from housecallpro.com/pricing on 30 August 2026 — Essentials $189/mo includes 5 users then $100 each; Max $329/mo includes 8 users then $75 each. Monthly billing, annual-prepay discounts not applied. Prices change; check theirs before deciding.

8 people$489$329$448
10 people$689$479$448
12 people$889$629$448

20 people$1,689$1,229$448

The crossover is ten people. Below that, Housecall Pro is cheaper than we are and we would rather you read it here than work it out on a spreadsheet after a sales call. Above it the gap widens every time you hire, because our price does not count people at all. Note also that Workhorse — the mobile app with unlimited technicians — is $149 at every one of these crew sizes.

If you are under ten people

Then buy theirs, honestly.

This page is not going to pretend the numbers say something they do not.

Their Basic at $79 is unbeatable for one person

If you are a single truck and a single login, nothing we sell competes with that and we are not going to invent a reason it does.

Essentials at $189 covers five users

At two to five people that is cheaper than Powerhouse. Our Workhorse plan is $149 with unlimited users, so if the mobile app is all you need, we are cheaper — but if you want the full desktop office at that size, they win on price.

Come back when the third truck lands

The reason to know where the crossover is now is so you are not surprised by it later. Most shops discover per-seat pricing the month they can least afford a surprise.

Or start on Workhorse and upgrade

Upgrading changes the price on the subscription you already have — you are invoiced the prorated difference immediately and the office half turns on with your existing data in it.

What changes above the line

The things that made us build our own.

Commission on gross profit

Material cost comes off before the percentage. On a job with a few hundred dollars of parts in it, paying a percentage of revenue instead is a slow leak nobody notices until the year is over.

An install board that tracks the order

Order status — not ordered, ordered, arrived — is tracked separately from job status, so nobody schedules a crew for equipment still on a truck.

An AI phone agent included

Riley answers what the office cannot get to and books the job. Included in Powerhouse rather than sold monthly on top.

Your own merchant account

You connect the Square account you already use, at your own rate. We take no percentage of card volume and never become the merchant of record.

Straight answers

Is ServiceBuilt cheaper than Housecall Pro? And the rest.

Is ServiceBuilt cheaper than Housecall Pro?

It depends entirely on headcount, and below about ten people the answer is no. Using their published monthly rates: at five people Housecall Pro Max is $329 against our $448. At ten it is $479 against $448. At fifteen, $854 against $448. At twenty-five, $1,604 against $448.

The crossover is ten people. One thing that does not move: Workhorse, our mobile app with unlimited technicians, is $149 at every crew size on that list.

Why does ServiceBuilt not charge per user?

Because it was built by a contractor for his own crew, and per-seat pricing punishes exactly the thing a growing shop is trying to do. Adding a technician should make you money, not raise your software bill. Flat pricing also means you can put the office manager, the bookkeeper and the apprentice on it without doing arithmetic first.

Will you move my data from Housecall Pro?

Yes, free, on either plan, and we do the moving — customers, jobs, estimates, invoices, payments and price book. You review what came across, and what did not, before anything goes live.

What about payment processing?

You connect your own Square account and pay whatever rate you have with Square. We add nothing, take no percentage of card volume, and never become the merchant of record. Deposits go from Square to your bank on your existing schedule — next business day, free, for cards run before 8pm ET.

How long is the trial?

Thirty days, with no card and no contract. Housecall Pro’s published trial is fourteen days, also with no card.

Keep comparing

The other ones people ask about.

Thirty days. No contract. Your data moved for you.

We migrate your history free on either plan, and we do the moving. If it is not better than what you have, you have lost nothing but a month.
